CloudJumper recently attended the Ulistic Sales and MSP Marketing Workshop at The Capital Grille in Baltimore on September 13th, learning all about the latest strategies in marketing for IT support and solutions providers.
In particular, the CloudJumper team left with a few key insights into marketing that we plan to incorporate into our public efforts as soon as we can:
- Marketing is a marathon, not a sprint: Regardless of the industry, so many business managers and owners tend to think that the minute they put a little time and money into marketing, it’ll magically convert into new business. The truth is that effective marketing comes down to working consistently and continually to demonstrate your value to potential new clients over a longer timeframe.
- There is no guarantee in marketing: Given the number of factors involved, the often surprising truth is that there’s is no implicit guarantee in marketing. Whereas when you pay for a given product, you get that product, when it comes to marketing it’s not so simple. Trends are fluid, tools are ever-changing, and the audience is fickle, which is why it’s so important to — as mentioned above — treat it as an ongoing, adaptive process.
- Marketing is something you have to do, analyze and adjust: There is no “one-size-fits-all” strategy when it comes to marketing. The business changes on a regular basis, which means you have to change as well, pivoting and adapting to fit new needs and interests.
- Remember you are not necessarily your audience: Even beyond marketing, this is a great point for IT industry members to learn. Just as a good technician doesn’t use inaccessible tech jargon to speak to clients, a good IT firm shouldn’t treat their audience like themselves. It’s important to invest resources in finding out exactly what your potential clients are looking for, instead of what you assume they’re looking for.
